FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

IN WHAT FORMAT(S) DO YOU PUBLISH?

In previous years, our magazine has been published in print format. Our 2020 issue was published online only due to the limitations of the pandemic. Starting in 2021, we aim to publish both online and in print, if the current situation allows us to do so.

DO YOU ACCEPT SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS?

We do accept simultaneous submissions. However, if your work has been accepted for publication elsewhere, we ask you to notify us so that it can be withdrawn from consideration.

WHEN WILL I GET A RESPONSE?

For submissions to Volume IV, please expect a response during the month of May.

I’M A RECENT GRADUATE/NOT YET A UNIVERSITY STUDENT. CAN I STILL SUBMIT?

Caesura’s goal is to showcase university student work. We will consider submissions from recent graduates, but not high school students. Priority will be given to current students.

CAN I SUBMIT A TRANSLATION?

We are happy to print a translation of an original work or a collaboration. Translations of published work will only be considered with permission from the original author and/or relevant copyright holder.

CAN I SUBMIT COLLABORATIVE WORK?

We are happy to accept collaborations. Be sure to get permission from all contributors and be careful not to exceed submission guidelines.

WHAT ARE MY RIGHTS AS A CONTRIBUTOR?

Caesura acquires First Serial Rights for accepted works. Once the issue in which your work appears has been published, you are free to republish your work. We ask that you credit Caesura as the initial publisher. Caesura retains the right to re-publish work in print or digital form, as well as on our social media pages.

WILL MY ART BE PRINTED IN COLOR?

Online and electronic versions of Caesura will include color versions of all artwork. In print, illustrations will appear in black and white, except for the front and back covers which may be selected from submitted illustrations.

CAN I SUBMIT PROSE THAT IS LONGER THAN 800 WORDS?

If your work is significantly longer than 800 words, we would be happy to read an excerpt. If your work is 1000 words or less, we will likely edit it down to fit the pages allotted. If major edits are required, this process is collaborative.

DO I HAVE TO SUBMIT WORK THAT RELATES TO THE THEME?

In past years, our chosen themes have served as a through line that ties the works together as a collection. We are more likely to select works that are connected to the theme, but we will consider all works submitted to us. We also encourage you to be creative when thinking about the ways in which you can connect to our issue's theme.

WHY WASN’T MY WORK CHOSEN?

We usually select about 15 works to print each year out of the many submissions we receive. If your submission wasn't selected for publication, we encourage you to submit new work during our next submission period.

WHAT IS THE POETRY NOW CONFERENCE?

The TAU English Department holds an annual poetry conference, usually in early June, that also marks the publication of Caesura’s latest issue. Attendees are invited to share a poem of their choice, and sharing original compositions is encouraged. Caesura contributors will be invited to read their work at the conference.

(TAU STUDENTS) CAN I SUBMIT THE SAME POEM I SUBMITTED TO THE BESSIN POETRY COMPETITION?

We will accept simultaneous submissions. However, if your poem is recognized by the Bessin competition we are unable to select it for Caesura.
